Thank you for your interest in joining CMTC. Hopefully you will find all the basic information that you need here about the company, its basic membership rules and other essentials.

Rehearsals

Take place on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays 8.00pm to 10.00pm in the run up to a show and also on the final four Sundays prior to the show. One night is usually devoted to singing and the other night to principals, dancers etc.

Sunday rehearsals are all day usually starting at 10.30-11.00am for principles / dancers and chorus from 1.00pm through to 6.00pm. Rehearsals are currently held at Elmtree School, Elmtree hill, Chesham, HP5 2PA.

Company Auditions:

Anyone wishing to join the company will have a “company audition”. This usually takes place within three weeks of you deciding that you would like to join the company. It is informal and usually takes place after a rehearsal and in front of the committee (4-6 people); musical choice is down to the auditionee and may be un-accompanied; accompanied or sung to a recorded backing track. Successful auditionees will then be invited to join the company.

Membership Cost:

Current annual company membership is: £30 per annum individual, £50 per annum joint living at same address and £20 Student rate.

An additional show levee of £10 per show that you perform in is also payable. So the most you would pay a year is £50 (£30+£10+£10). There are also nominal charges made for hire of Scores and Libretto.

Show Auditions:

These auditions are only open to fully paid up members of the company. If you have not paid your subscription, you will not be allowed to audition. For new members wishing to audition for a part, this means that you will have to have auditioned for the Company and been accepted as a new member.

Show week

We normally move into the Elgiva Theatre on the Sunday before the show and all cast members are required for band call during the afternoon. Dependant on show format there are usually two evenings for technical rehearsal and one evening for dress rehearsal – format is published and notified to cast members for each show.

And finally

We like to think that the standard of performance the Company achieves in the superb theatre facilities is getting better all the time. To maintain this momentum, every cast member must take responsibility to learn lines, harmony chorus parts and dance steps as early in rehearsals as possible. Also, the sooner we can get the basics learnt, the more fun there then is in adding the finishing touches that lift the performance from typical “Amdram” to something that the general public will recognise as top quality entertainment.
